A Momentary Truce

Head down, forearms braced in a triangle on my yoga mat, I flex my abdomen and lift my legs up into a headstand.

Today, unlike most days, there is no struggle. I find a balance point and all the strain disappears, effortless as standing, I am breathing deep, poised in perfect equilibrium.

But then a shot of a adrenaline bursts cold in my stomach as I feel balance shift, and my arms lock back into the battle to hold me upright, upside-down, fighting gravity once again.
